FC North is proud to compete in the National 1 League, the top team-based competition within US Club Soccer and US Youth Soccer.
Launching in 2026–27, National 1 brings together the former National Premier Leagues (NPL) and US Youth Soccer National League into one connected national competition structure. The platform is designed to create stronger competition, clearer pathways and greater opportunities for players and teams to advance.

A NEW NATIONAL COMPETITION
CONNECTING THE YOUTH SOCCER PATHWAY
National 1 represents a major collaboration between US Club Soccer and US Youth Soccer, bringing established competitions together within a unified national platform.
The league is structured around eight geographic conferences with localized districts, helping create meaningful competition while reducing unnecessary travel for players and families. National 1 also connects directly with the ECNL ecosystem through an integrated postseason and opportunities for high-performing clubs to advance toward the ECNL Regional League.
For FC North, National 1 provides another important piece of our boys development pathway — giving ambitious players the opportunity to compete at a high level while continuing to earn opportunities through performance.
WHY NATIONAL 1?
PERFORMANCE CREATES OPPORTUNITY.
· HIGH-LEVEL COMPETITION – National 1 is the highest team-based competitive platform within US Club Soccer and US Youth Soccer.
· A MERIT-BASED PATHWAY – National 1 is primarily team-based, with competition and advancement driven by on-field performance and defined standards.
· CONNECTED TO ECNL – High-performing National 1 clubs can be considered for advancement into ECNL Regional League, creating greater connectivity between competitive platforms.
· COLLEGE & TALENT EXPOSURE – The structure is designed to increase access to college scouting and talent identification while connecting players to postseason and showcase opportunities.
LOCAL COMPETITION. NATIONAL OPPORTUNITY.
National 1 is designed around localized regular-season competition, with districts intended to create appropriate competitive matches while limiting unnecessary travel and cost.
For teams that earn their opportunity, the pathway expands nationally.
The inaugural 2026–27 season culminates in the ECNL Conference League Playoffs, where qualifying National 1 teams and ECNL Regional League teams compete within the same postseason structure. Four regional playoff events will feed into the ECNL Conference League Finals in summer 2027.
